Thanks for visiting!!!
Honestly, I never developed a taste for coffee growing up. You see, I grew up in the Midwest during a time when people brewed their classic canned coffee in a percolator. The smell was good, but the flavor was bitter. Many used sugar and heavy cream to cover up the taste of the coffee. Personally, I didn’t see a point in drinking it.
The Great Coffee God: I officially started drinking coffee for it’s caffeine benefits while I worked swing shift in the Navy during the early 1980’s. I was tired and couldn’t figure out why some people didn’t have much trouble staying awake. That is when I was formally introduced to the Great Coffee God: a centrally located, huge coffee pot that ran nonstop and was funded by it’s worshipers. Most came to worship the Great Coffee God with their stained coffee cups that they filled with coffee throughout the night. I was stationed in Hawaii while in the Navy, home of Kona Coffee, and it was served at the local McDonald’s. This period of time marks the birth of my love for coffee and my induction into coffee rituals. However, when I returned to the Midwest my coffee drinking diminished due to the lack of good, local coffee.
Born Again: When I moved to the Pacific NW in 1990, my love for coffee was reborn! I was visiting a Navy friend that was living in Seattle at the time, and she introduced me to a local coffee house. Since that time, living in the Pacific NW, home of some seriously big coffee shop kings, has played a very influential part in the birth of Cold Creek Coffee Company. Over the years I’ve collected coffee memorabilia for our home and when friends visit my husband and I, they can always count on getting a good coffee drink at our house. Over the years we talked of opening a coffee & gift shop or drive through espresso shop, but there are so many already out there; so it didn’t seem to make any sense trying to reinvent the wheel.
Coffee Heaven: The first time a friend asked us if we wanted to attended the Seattle Coffee Fest, we jumped at the chance. We were in coffee heaven for the entire day at the fest. A couple years later another friend started roasting his own coffee. The idea intrigued us, so we decided to try it ourselves. We didn’t want invest a lot so we tried the (popcorn) air popper method. We were very impressed by the exceptional taste resulting from such a basic roasting method. Drinking fresh roasted coffee did not compare to coffee purchased at the local store. Before we knew it, Coffee Fest was around the corner and we were seriously considering taking a deeper plunge from home coffee roasting to micro roasting.
Expansion! We retired the air popper, invested in a small roaster and started marketing our roasted coffee to our friends and family. They enjoyed our handcrafted coffee so much that we decided to expand our market beyond our friends and family. I licensed our business, we built a small processing room in our shed and I registered with the Washington State Dept of Agriculture as a food processor.
The Name: I came up with the name Cold Creek Coffee Company because the name sounds FRESH and reminded us of the OUTDOORS. It wasn’t until after I registered the business name and website name that I found out there’s actually a Cold Creek located just north east of where we live.
Artisan Micro Roasters: Cold Creek Coffee isn’t something you drink to stay awake. We believe coffee is a culture, an art, an aroma, an expectation, an experience. Cold Creek Coffee Company is built on the social aspect of enjoying a good cup of coffee with friends and family. Our goal is to roast high quality, Arabica coffee beans into exceptional, fresh, flavorful, handcrafted whole bean coffee.
