Green Coffee BeansCold Creek Coffee isn’t something you drink to stay awake. We believe coffee is a culture, an art, an aroma, an expectation, an experience.

Cold Creek Coffee Company builds on the social aspect of enjoying a good cup of coffee with friends and family. Our goal is to roast high quality, green Arabica coffee beans (pictured to left) into exceptional, fresh, flavorful, whole bean coffee.

We specialize in whole bean coffee, roasted to order.  Our goal is to roast within 24 hours and ship within 48 hours of placing an order.

Higher Caffeine in Light or Dark Roast?

First off, Robusta beans have higher caffeine than Arabica beans. We use Arabica because they are the more flavorful beans.Higher Caffeine?

All coffee beans have water content in them. When your roast them, the water content reduces the longer you roast them. This effects the beans size and weight. Some will say the roasting process burns off the caffeine. I’m not a chemist, but I can speak from experience when I say that the lighter the roast the higher the coffee buzz. Also, the way you process the coffee has an effect. Espresso is a fast extraction process; the water spends less time with the beans. Drip is slow and the water sits with the beans longer. French press is even slower. The slower the brew increases the potential for higher caffeine.

You can save a lot of money by owning our own espresso machine and buying our own beans. There are a variety of machines out there a person can buy. We recommend buying a cheaper one to see if you are the type of person that will commit to using the machine before investing in a “good” machine. No point investing in a high quality machine if you never use it! If you buy a cheap one and you realize you’re using it a lot, you’ll end up wanting a BETTER one when the cheap one dies. And it will die, because it’s CHEAP!

FYI: Some coffee shops add caffeine to their coffees. This gives the illusion there’s more caffeine in their darker roast coffee. Some add or use Robusta beans for their espresso roasts which will increase the caffeine too.

Espresso Machines for the Coffee Lover…

Our espresso machineWe decided to make high quality coffee equipment available for our customers via our online store.

We understand that some people can’t imagine paying a lot for a coffee machine, but let it be known that there is truth to the fact that you get what you pay for. Like cars, they all may get you from Point A to Point B, but everyone knows the quality of the ride differs based on the amount you spend on the quality of the car. The same holds true for your coffee machine.

We currently use an Ascaso Dream Versatile Espresso Machine and we love it! (Pictured to the left.) This is our 5th espresso machine.

Our first espresso machine was a small, basic Krups bought in the early 1990’s. From that machine we moved up to a European brand we bought at a garage sale. When it died, we moved up to a Barista brand, built by Saeco. We were pleased with the quality of the espresso the Barista brewed so after our first one died, we bought another. After our second one died, of the same death as the first one, we decided it was time to find another brand in 2010.

Why would we go through FOUR machines? Remember, we LOVE coffee and we use our machine SEVERAL times throughout the day. And yes, we only use filtered water in our machines and we descale them.

When looking for a new espresso machine, we shopped at the usual retail stores including Walmart, Target, Costco, Macy’s, Lowe’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, and of course, the big name coffee houses.  We first saw the Ascaso machines while attending a coffee trade show in Seattle.  We were impressed with their machines and after comparing several brands, we decided to spend the extra money to get one for ourselves.

Please understand that we do NOT recommend buying a high end machine for your first machine unless you are committed to using it regularly which can make it cost effective compared to frequently buying coffee drinks at a local coffee house.

All that to say, we are excited to announce that we will be adding coffee equipment to our online store very soon!!!
